Leah Parkhurst is a fiber artist
working and residing in the wonderland of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When
she is not crafting her heart out you can find Leah either reading history
books or running around in the cold. Eating Indian Food and a trip to
the thrift store is her favorite date with her husband and long time
partner Matt. Leah holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Artist Statement My current body of work addresses issues of memory. Whether it is with recording and preserving, as in my ritual linen series, or with grand oversized brooches that reference a time gone by, all of my work talks about our relationship to the past. My goal is to provide people with elements to help record and hallmark their daily lives. I use screen-printing as the foundation of my work and from there, layer and construct the piece with multiple materials and techniques. The work is intended to create joy and pleasure for the viewer; hence the products are highly utilitarian. |
